Come on a course with the only falconry company on the Isle of Wight run by a qualified Falconer and Game Keeper!
Here at White Falconry Ltd we offer a wide range of courses and activities. If you do not see a course or event that suits your needs please do not hesitate to contact us. We try and structure our courses / events to meet everyone’s requirements.
Our courses are set in over 3500 acres of lovely Isle of Wight farm land. On your course you will be greeted on the farm land and taken straight out, you will not waste time looking around a centre or drinking cups of tea or coffee! You will have a very quick introduction on how to handle the birds and then... off you go! You fly we watch. While out flying you can also enjoy the GREAT views from the hillside and keep your eyes out for the buzzards, kestrel, sparrow hawks and hobbies (certain times of year) while you fly. White falconry would like to thank all off the farm owners for giving us permission to fly on there land.
Full Day Falconry Course
This course is for the person who is thinking of getting their own bird of prey. On this course you will learn how to make equipment and put it on the bird. You will also learn how to grab and hold on to the birds in the correct manner, during this course you will learn the stages of training a bird right through to free flying.
Week and Weekend Falconry Course
The weekend course covers everything in the previous course but in more depth. You will learn about the bird’s weight and food intake, as well as the different types of housing they need. You will also have the chance to spend more time with the birds and learn about their characters.
On the week course you will learn the correct manner of swinging a lure and flying a falcon. We will teach you to fly one of our birds and on the last day of the course you will fly the bird all by yourself while being supervised by a falconer. The aim of the week course is for you to reach a standard to be able to get your own bird and to know what it will take to look after it. Flying Days and Half Flying Days
The flying days are for the individual who would like to have the chance to fly these fantastic birds but not to spend any time in a class room. You will be introduced to your bird and get an introductory lesson on how to hold it and then you will go out on some of the beautiful land the Isle of Wight has to offer.
A half flying day is ideal for a person who wants to get the chance to fly one of our birds of prey but does not want to spend all day walking about. This course is also designed for the individual who enjoys flying birds but does not have the time to look after there own. For the cost of this course you could afford to fly birds a few times a year with none of the worry or work of the up keep.
Hunting Days
The hunting days are for individuals who want to see these lovely birds at their best. On a hunting day you will go out with a bird of prey (Harris hawk / Sparrow hawk) and try and catch the birds quarry. We would advise you to make your booking during the hunting season in order for the bird to have the widest choice of quarry.
Please note: You are not guaranteed to catch anything!
Falconry Workshop
Falconry workshops are designed for people who own their bird / birds and would like to make their own equipment, thereby reducing the cost of a very expensive and rewarding hobby. It is also aimed at anyone who would like to learn more about the techniques of falconry whether or not you own a bird. A falconry workshop runs over one day, it will start at 10am and finish about 5pm. Included in the price of this course are all materials needed, anything you make is yours to take home.
Refreshments will be available at our venue as part of the course or you are at liberty to bring your own.
